The AI Robot Association (AIRoA) is a Japan-based non-profit organization focused on accelerating innovation at the intersection of artificial intelligence and robotics. Its mission is to build a comprehensive robot data ecosystem and provide open platforms and datasets to advance robotics foundation models, addressing societal challenges such as labor shortages and healthcare efficiency. The association counts over 24 member companies and maintains a technical scope that includes Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models, multimodal learning, tactile-rich manipulation, and sim-to-real transfer.
AIRoA's core offerings include an open evaluation platform that enables global researchers to benchmark models on standardized humanoid robots, and a large-scale robot data ecosystem comprising datasets, trained models, and benchmarks shared with the international research community. A central initiative is the collection of one million hours of humanoid robot operation data, supported by infrastructure featuring hundreds of humanoid robots, dedicated GPU clusters, high-fidelity simulators, and a global-scale evaluation pipeline.
The organization's work spans robotics, AI research, and healthcare verticals. By making its resources openly available, AIRoA operates as a collaborative hub for researchers and engineers working on large-scale benchmarking and the development of foundation models for physical AI systems.
