Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) is a Crown corporation wholly owned by the Province of Alberta, established on January 1, 2008. It operates independently from the Government of Alberta and serves as the institutional investment manager for Alberta-based pension, endowment, insurance, and government funds. Its named clients include the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund, the Local Authorities Pension Plan, and the Special Forces Pension Plan, with the broader mandate of securing long-term financial outcomes for approximately 375,000 members of provincial public pension and retirement plans.
AIMCo manages more than $160 billion in assets across a wide range of asset classes, including public equities, fixed income, real estate, infrastructure, renewable resources, and private equity. The organisation integrates material sustainability factors into its investment decision-making. It is ranked among Canada's top eight pension funds and is considered one of the country's largest and most diversified institutional investment managers.
The technology and investment teams that support this scale operate across five offices: headquarters in Edmonton, with additional presence in Calgary, Toronto, London, and Luxembourg. AIMCo employs between 501 and 1,000 professionals across these locations.
