Amperesand builds a medium voltage solid state transformer designed for AI data centres and other critical infrastructure. The device converts medium voltage to low voltage on a power electronics platform built around silicon carbide (SiC) power modules. The company reports conversion efficiency above 98.5%, power delivery five times faster than conventional alternatives in half the space, and 99.999% uptime. First commercial units are scheduled for delivery in 2026.
The technology draws on more than ten years of research and development. Amperesand was founded in 2023 as a spin-out from the Energy Research Institute at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, and was spun out by Xora Innovation. The company has raised over $100m, with backing from investors including Temasek, Walden Catalyst Ventures and TDK Ventures.
Amperesand is headquartered in Singapore, with additional sites in San Francisco and Reno, Nevada, and is scaling manufacturing in the United States. Its technical work spans power electronics, solid state transformers, SiC power modules and medium-to-low voltage power conversion, serving customers among hyperscalers, AI data centre operators, industrial users and critical infrastructure providers.
