appliedAI is Europe's largest initiative for the application of trustworthy AI technology. Founded in 2017 by Dr. Andreas Liebl as a department of UnternehmerTUM, it helps European businesses adopt artificial intelligence through expert guidance, ecosystem partnerships and structured programmes that accelerate transformation. The organisation employs more than 100 AI experts and is headquartered in Munich, with additional offices in Heilbronn.
The work spans a defined set of technical domains: trustworthy AI, AI strategy and consulting, AI development and implementation, AI agents, EU AI Act compliance and production-ready AI systems. Delivery is described as engineering-first, with an emphasis on deployed systems rather than presentations; more than 70 AI applications have been implemented to date. Services include AI strategy and consulting, AI development and implementation, and three specialised programmes - Companion Partnership, AI Agent Lighthouse and the Mittelstand Accelerator, the last of which targets German mid-sized companies.
appliedAI has served over 250 companies, among them 23 of the 40 DAX corporations, across the automotive, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, energy and financial-services sectors. Its stated operating principle is that Europe can maintain competitiveness only through cooperation and open exchange, and it builds trustworthy AI by design in line with the EU AI Act.
