The Archdiocese of St. Louis is a Catholic ecclesiemporal organisation - more precisely, a Catholic ecclesiastical organisation - serving the St. Louis area and ten surrounding Missouri counties through a network of parishes, schools, pastoral and charitable ministries, and administrative support offices. Its administrative offices are headquartered at the Cardinal Rigali Center in Shrewsbury, Missouri, which supports operations spanning an 11-county area of Missouri.
The organisation's reach is substantial. It serves more than 450,000 Catholics and community members and operates an expansive coalition of Catholic schools covering PreK through 12th grade, which together educate over 50,000 students across the 11-county area. That school system traces its origins to St. Rose Philippine Duchesne and a history of Catholic education stretching back more than 200 years. In addition to parishes and schools, the Archdiocese runs pastoral and charitable outreach ministries serving the wider community.
Roles are spread across several distinct operating environments: a distributed network of parishes and schools, charitable and pastoral programmes, and the central administrative offices that support them. The organisation describes its educational mission as rooted in a higher calling from God, with an emphasis on helping children develop a sense of purpose and value, providing education of higher quality, and building a welcoming community in which students and families feel secure in a dynamic future. Employment falls within the religious and faith-based, PreK-12 education, charitable services, and non-profit sectors.
