Armilla AI is a managing general agent (MGA) dedicated exclusively to AI insurance. The firm underwrites and prices AI risk in order to make AI adoption insurable for companies deploying the technology. It became the first Lloyd's Coverholder dedicated solely to AI liability insurance in 2024, and accesses global distribution through the Lloyd's of London market from its base in Toronto, Canada.
The company's technical work spans AI risk evaluation and AI liability underwriting. Services include evaluation of AI systems for accuracy, robustness and fairness, particularly in regulated industries; AI governance assessment; and analytics on litigation, incident and regulatory risk. More than 500 AI system evaluations were completed before Armilla AI built its insurance products. Underwriting is supported by the AI Risk Hub, a proprietary data platform that supplies litigation, incident and regulatory data to the technical underwriting team, which also reviews each system's governance documentation.
Armilla AI launched a standalone affirmative AI liability policy in April 2025 for companies deploying AI, with coverage limits raised to US$25 million as of January 2026. The team combines expertise from Element AI, the Responsible AI Institute, Deloitte and leading insurance companies, and works on purpose-built risk infrastructure for AI rather than tooling inherited from other domains.
