CoVar builds customized machine learning and AI algorithms and delivers complete engineering solutions for clients in defence, healthcare and industry. Founded in 2017, the company is a small research-and-development software firm that works from basic algorithm research through to large-scale system integration, with an emphasis on deploying results in operational settings rather than leaving them at the prototype stage.
Its technical work spans computer vision, sensor data processing and aided and automatic target recognition (AiTR/ATR), including threat detection from infrared and RGB imagery. The firm has built one of the world's largest collections of labelled imagery for US Army AiTR researchers, and counts the Army and DARPA among its defence clients. Other applications include biomedical research and the monitoring of industrial machinery.
Rather than offering off-the-shelf products, CoVar develops tailored algorithms matched to each client's specific problem, beginning with an assessment of the challenge in question. The company is headquartered in Durham, North Carolina, with an additional office in McLean, Virginia.
