The Crown Commercial Service (CCS) is the United Kingdom's largest central purchasing body. It manages the procurement of common goods and services across the public sector, a function that will fall under the Government Commercial Agency (GCA) from 1 April 2026. The organisation serves over 20,000 UK public sector buyers, handling annual spending of more than £30 billion across 83 categories, including energy, construction, fleet, and travel.
By centralising buying requirements, CCS aims to deliver savings for the taxpayer. Its operations have generated record commercial benefits exceeding £3.8 billion. The agency also leads on procurement policy for the government and works to simplify the procurement process for both buyers and suppliers.
The organisation's technology roles support the digital infrastructure underpinning this large-scale procurement operation. CCS encourages suppliers of all sizes to participate in government procurement, including SMEs, voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs), and micro-businesses.
