Fervo Energy is a Houston-based power company founded in 2017 that develops, owns and operates utility-scale enhanced geothermal power facilities. The firm applies techniques from the oil and gas industry - horizontal drilling, fiber-optic sensing and advanced reservoir engineering - to enhanced geothermal systems (EGS), with the aim of making geothermal power more scalable and economically accessible. The result is firm, carbon-free electricity available around the clock.
The company's flagship development is Cape Station, an enhanced geothermal project in Utah planned to deliver 500 MW of firm carbon-free power. Beyond it, Fervo Energy reports a development pipeline of more than 50 GW. In 2021 it signed the world's first corporate enhanced geothermal development agreement, with Google.
Fervo Energy is headquartered in Houston, Texas, with additional offices in Golden, Colorado; Oakland, California; Reno, Nevada; and Salt Lake City, Utah. Its work spans power generation, geothermal energy, 24/7 carbon-free clean energy and the transfer of oil and gas drilling technology to geothermal applications, alongside partnerships with major energy and technology companies.
