H55 is a Swiss company founded in 2017 as a spin-off from the Solar Impulse project, developing certified electric propulsion and energy storage systems for aircraft. The company operates automated production lines in Sion, Switzerland and Longueuil, Quebec, Canada, and was the first to achieve regulatory approval for propulsion battery modules in CS-23 fixed-wing aircraft under EASA standards.
The company's core offering is a modular energy storage platform designed to serve as a foundation for multiple aircraft types and powertrains, including electric, hybrid, hydrogen-electric, STOL, VTOL, and regional aircraft. H55 has developed proprietary cell-level battery architecture that enables individual cell monitoring and protection, differentiating its approach from pack-level solutions. These systems are built to certification standards required by aviation authorities.
H55's technology is in active use across several aircraft programs, including the Bristell B23 Energic trainer, CAE's electric conversion of Piper Archer fleets, Pratt & Whitney Canada's hybrid-electric flight demonstrator, and Harbour Air's retrofit programs. The company was founded by former Solar Impulse team members André Borschberg, Sébastien Demont, and Gregory Blatt.
