Maersk Container Industry (MCI), founded in 1990 and headquartered in Tinglev, Denmark, manufactures refrigerated containers and refrigeration machines for the intermodal industry. Part of the A.P. Moller - Maersk group, the company operates globally and supplies shipping lines and logistics operators serving cold-chain and perishable goods transport.
Its engineering work spans several technical domains: refrigeration technology, controlled atmosphere systems, cold-chain logistics technology, energy efficiency, connectivity and IoT solutions, and surface treatment technology. The flagship product is the Star Cool refrigeration unit, first developed in 1998 and refined over more than 20 years of continuous innovation. The recently introduced Star Cool 1.1 reduces energy consumption by 8%, a step the company describes as significant for net-zero operations. The product line also includes complete reefers, cooling machines, the Star Cool CA and Star Cool CA+ atmosphere control systems, the Sekstant connectivity brand for container monitoring, and specialised surface treatments.
MCI maintains a global service network of more than 400 Star Cool Service Providers. Sustainability efforts centre on a triple-refrigerant system and progress toward net-zero operations, in pursuit of enabling sustainable global cold-chains for perishable goods transport.
