Onsharp is a custom software company based in Fargo, North Dakota, that works exclusively with a US-based workforce. Founded in 2000 by Joe Sandin from his college dorm room, the firm grew organically from a general custom software shop into a specialist in legacy software modernization - replacing slow or fragile internal systems with modern ones. It reports more than 25 years of experience and over 1,200 clients served, with particular exposure to the agriculture and manufacturing sectors and to enterprise businesses more broadly.
The company's main service, Legacy Software Modernization, follows a structured three-phase process: Architect, Build, and Accelerate. Work begins with a five-step Blueprint phase designed to surface complexity before code is written - covering business and system assessment, opportunity exploration, requirements planning, technical planning, and a detailed blueprint presentation. Alongside its services work, Onsharp also builds its own products, including Onsharp Core, an employee portal handling HR functions such as time tracking, benefits management, onboarding and internal communication.
Technical work spans software architecture, custom software development and enterprise systems modernization. Engineers joining the firm will encounter a process-driven culture built around the Architect–Build–Accelerate methodology and a rigorous discovery phase, applied to modernisation projects for established businesses across the United States.
