Oritain is a New Zealand-founded forensic science and supply-chain technology company, established in 2008, that helps organisations verify whether products and raw materials genuinely originate from their claimed source. Its work sits at the intersection of forensic science, data science and supply-chain traceability, combining laboratory analysis with statistical modelling to test origin claims independently of paperwork and certification schemes.
The company's core methodology, Origin Fingerprint, examines chemical and isotopic signatures in materials and applies statistical models to validate supplier and origin claims, verifying product origin from source to shelf. Technical work spans isotopic analysis, chemical analysis, statistical modelling and product authentication, applied across commodities including cotton and textiles, leather, timber, coffee, dairy, red meat and agriculture.
Oritain operates from six locations - Auckland, Dunedin, London, Paris, Singapore and Washington, D.C. - and employs a multi-disciplinary global team of more than 200 people spanning forensic science and data science. The company works with more than 1,500 retailers, brands, manufacturers and suppliers worldwide.
