Qlapa was an Indonesian online marketplace founded in 2015 that connected local artisans and craftsmen with consumers to sell handmade handicrafts. Headquartered in West Jakarta, the platform offered batik, woven textiles, leather bags, wooden furniture, jewelry, and ethnic accessories produced by Indonesian makers, serving both domestic and international customers.
The company received seed funding from investors including GFC, Ideosource, and founders of Rocket Internet, followed by a Series A round in March 2017. During its nearly four-year operating period, Qlapa channelled billions of Rupiah to local craftsmen and gained recognition for supporting Indonesia's creative economy and traditional craftsmanship.
Despite its backing and market position, Qlapa announced its shutdown in March 2019 after failing to achieve profitability. The platform had positioned itself as Indonesia's answer to Etsy, aiming to establish the country as a premier producer of high-quality handcrafted merchandise on the global market.
