Red Cat is a U.S.-based developer of unmanned aircraft and robotic systems for defense and national security applications. Founded in 2016 and publicly listed on Nasdaq under the ticker RCAT, the company builds hardware and software spanning aerial, maritime and ground environments, with an emphasis on systems deployed in real-world missions rather than research prototypes.
Engineering work at Red Cat spans a broad technical range: unmanned aircraft systems and autonomous aircraft, embedded flight software, perception and sensor integration, swarm coordination, telemetry, and operator-facing applications including ground-station software and drone analytics. The portfolio is assembled from several operating businesses, among them Teal Drones, FlightWave Aerospace and Apium Swarm Robotics, the latter contributing swarm robotics capabilities.
Red Cat Propware, a drone analytics and telemetry business founded by Jeffrey M. Thompson, was acquired in May 2019. Mr Thompson serves as CEO and continues to lead the company. The firm operates from the United States and describes its aim as providing dependable, operationally relevant unmanned systems closer to American industry.
