Resolution is a nonprofit research organisation founded in 2026 and based in the United Kingdom. It conducts theoretical and empirical research on AI alignment, combining foundational alignment science with heavily automated research intended to accelerate progress toward confidence that advanced AI systems remain beneficial. The organisation was founded by researchers from the UK AI Security Institute's Alignment Team and Timaeus; it previously operated as Sequent and was associated with Timaeus Research before rebranding to Resolution.
Its research portfolio spans learning theory and singular learning theory, scalable oversight, agent foundations, personas, complexity theory, game theory, and mathematical autoformalization. Alongside this work, Resolution builds infrastructure for automated experimentation and AI research agents, and applies automation heavily within its own research workflows. The organisation announced major philanthropic funding together with API-credit support.
Resolution also makes grants to external mathematical and formalization projects, including substantial support for the Formal Commons Project. Founding researchers previously led an Alignment Project at the UK AI Security Institute with a budget of £30 million. The organisation describes itself as research-focused, with an emphasis on theoretical rigour and an ambition to work at greater scale.
