Shaper is a human-involved robotics company that builds precision cutting tools combining computer vision with handheld power tools. Founded in 2012, the firm works across computer vision, robotics, digital fabrication, CNC routing and hardware and software tooling, with the stated aim of making precision cutting accessible to professional woodworkers and hobbyist makers alike.
Its product line is headed by Origin, described as the world's first handheld CNC router. The wider ecosystem includes Workstation, a complementary making tool; BenchPilot, an automated hands-free cutting tool; and Trace, which converts hand-drawn sketches into vector graphics. The design philosophy behind these products is that tools should meet users' creative needs rather than the reverse.
Shaper is headquartered in San Francisco with an office in Stuttgart, Germany, and serves thousands of craftspeople globally across woodworking, crafts and making, digital fabrication, hobbyist and DIY markets. The company has a decade-long collaboration with Festool, and its product lineup is set to join the Festool portfolio in 2027.
