Sown To Grow is a K-12 education technology company founded in 2015 and designed by former educators. Its platform collects weekly student check-ins and written reflections - using emoji-based emotional check-ins alongside free-text responses - and supports teachers in replying with personalised coaching and support. The company's engineering work spans natural language processing, machine learning and real-time data dashboards, applied to student well-being analytics at scale.
Among its products is a Concerning Reflection Alerts system, which applies natural language processing and machine learning to identify students who may need additional support. Alerts are manually reviewed by trained professionals before educators are notified. A separate set of real-time insight dashboards gives school leaders and district administrators visibility into well-being trends to enable earlier, targeted support.
The platform is deployed in schools and districts across 40 states in the United States. Research-validated outcomes include significant gains in student sense of belonging, self-management, self-awareness and social awareness. The approach aligns with MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) and PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) frameworks.
Sown To Grow was co-founded by former middle school administrator Rupa Gupta, who serves as chief executive. The company has received a District Administration Top EdTech Products Award and recognition at the FETC conference.
