University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden is a maximum-care hospital and academic medical centre in Dresden, and the only maximum-care hospital in eastern Saxony. Established as a public-law institution of the Free State of Saxony on July 1st 1999, it delivers the full spectrum of modern inpatient and outpatient medicine, with particular expertise in complex, severe and rare diseases. It operates 25 clinics and polyclinics and seven institutes, with 1,410 beds and 201 day-clinic treatment places, and treats around 50,000 patients a year in its emergency department.
The hospital has made continuous modernisation a priority, with major investment in digital health, medical AI and trustworthy healthcare data systems. Technical work also spans precision diagnostics, proton therapy, intensive-care medicine and interdisciplinary clinical care, supported by 17 modern operating theatres and 19 interdisciplinary centres covering cancer, rare diseases, children, neurological disorders and other complex conditions. With roughly 1,000 physicians and 2,000 nursing professionals, the scale of the clinical operation offers an environment in which technology is applied to real, high-acuity medical problems.
Patient care, research and teaching are combined through a close collaboration with TU Dresden's Faculty of Medicine, giving the hospital an international academic reputation alongside its regional healthcare role. It draws patients from Dresden, eastern Saxony and beyond. More information is available at https://ukdd.de/.
