Verkor designs and manufactures low-carbon lithium-ion battery cells in France, targeting the European market. Founded in 2020 by six industry veterans, the company has secured over €2 billion in financing from investors including Renault Group, EQT Ventures, EIT InnoEnergy, and the European Investment Bank.
The company operates the Verkor Innovation Centre in Grenoble, which opened in 2023 and houses an R&D laboratory, an Industry 4.0 pilot production line, and the Ecole de la Batterie training campus. Its first gigafactory in Dunkerque was inaugurated in December 2025, with an initial capacity of 16 GWh per year, scalable to 50 GWh per year by 2030 - sufficient to power approximately 300,000 electric vehicles annually. The facility is expected to generate 1,200 direct jobs and 3,000 indirect positions.
Verkor's focus on low-carbon battery cell production and European manufacturing capacity reflects its strategic positioning around battery sovereignty and sustainable industrial development. The company combines manufacturing operations with dedicated workforce development and R&D capabilities across its facilities in France.
