About

AgZen is an AgTech company developing feedback-optimized spraying technology that measures and controls droplet coverage at the leaf level. The company's technical work spans fluid dynamics, surface science, computer vision, AI-powered recommendations and spray nozzle engineering, building on more than a decade of research begun in 2011 before the firm's founding in 2020. AgZen is an MIT spinout with roots in Professor Kripa Varanasi's research group and is headquartered in Somerville, Massachusetts. The company's flagship product, RealCoverage, is described as the first system capable of measuring and controlling droplet coverage at the leaf level. Dual-camera hardware mounted on standard sprayers provides real-time, in-cab visualisation of where spray droplets land, while AI-powered recommendations optimise nozzle selection, spray pressure, boom height and driving speed. EnhanceCoverage, a nozzle technology that cloaks droplets with adjuvants, is designed to increase the likelihood of droplets sticking to plant surfaces rather than bouncing off. The technology addresses a problem in which up to 90% of spray products never reach their intended target. AgZen reports that its system achieves 30-50% reductions in chemical and water usage without sacrificing crop protection efficacy. The company has raised $13.5M and operates across three continents, with a dealer network of more than 250 locations in North America, Europe and Australia. AgZen works in agriculture, crop protection and fertiliser application, with a stated mission of ensuring that every droplet sprayed counts and a focus on reducing chemical and water waste.
