Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health is New Hampshire's only academic health system and the state's largest private employer. The non-profit, fully integrated network operates more than 30 clinics and trains nearly 450 residents and fellows annually across 53 programmes, drawing on roots that trace back to Dartmouth Medical School's founding in 1797.
The system operates several flagship facilities: Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, the state's sole academic medical centre and a Level I Adult Trauma Centre; Dartmouth Health Children's, New Hampshire's only children's hospital; and the Norris Cotton Cancer Care Pavilion, one of 57 NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centres in the United States. The network encompasses more than 2,300 providers delivering care across primary care, specialty services, and rural healthcare throughout northern New England.
Beyond hospital operations, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Health conducts clinical research and manages Visiting Nurse and Hospice for Vermont and New Hampshire, extending its reach across state lines. The organisation's structure as an academic health system positions it at the intersection of patient care delivery, medical education, and research infrastructure serving a region with significant rural healthcare challenges.
