DEECA is a Victorian Government department responsible for climate action, energy, environment, water, agriculture and resources policy across the state. The department was established through consolidating Victoria's energy, environment, climate action, water, agriculture and resources portfolios into a single organisation.
The department leads work across renewable energy development - including solar, battery and offshore wind initiatives - alongside climate adaptation, water management, agricultural resilience and natural resource management. It manages emergency response capabilities and biodiversity conservation, partnering with Traditional Owners and stakeholders to shape Victoria's environmental and economic policy.
DEECA operates under clear targets: halving emissions by 2030 and achieving net zero by 2050. Its mandate encompasses supporting sectors to adapt and transition towards sustainable practices whilst maintaining economic resilience, protecting Victoria's native landscapes and ecosystems, and ensuring environments remain healthy and biodiverse for future generations.
