NatureScot exists to protect and restore Scotland's natural heritage at a time when our nature faces unprecedented challenges. Since the 1950s, the overuse of natural resources has resulted in less space for nature and diminished benefits for Scotland's people. As Scotland's nature agency, we advise Scottish Ministers on all aspects of nature conservation - from biodiversity and geodiversity to the natural elements of our landscapes and seascapes - working to ensure these assets are maintained, enhanced, and continue to sustain us.
Our mission is to be the leading organisation that inspires, enthuses and influences others to manage Scotland's natural resources sustainably. We provide grants, carry out research, offer expert advice, handle licensing, look after designated sites, and support interpretation - all in partnership with local authorities, businesses, communities, and land managers. By 2030, we aim for Scotland to be recognised as a world leader in looking after and enhancing nature, creating a nature-rich future where everyone is happier, healthier, wealthier and more equal.
