Malibu Boats, founded in 1982 by a group of water-skiers who borrowed money to build a better slalom boat, is the world's largest manufacturer of watersports towboats. The company produces a portfolio of recreational power boats for boaters, fishermen and water-sports enthusiasts, and sells globally.
Technical work sits at the centre of the operation. Boat design and marine engineering are carried out in-house, covering everything from hull and systems engineering to the handcrafting of boats with premium materials. The stated aim of that engineering effort is durability season after season, alongside a continued commitment to innovation.
The portfolio comprises four brands: Malibu, its premier watersports towboats and recreational power boats; Axis Wake Research, a watersports towboat brand; and the recreational power boat brands Cobalt Boats and Pursuit Boats. The Malibu brand has won six consecutive WakeWorld Rider's Choice awards.
The company describes its culture as family-oriented and rooted in the values that carried it from its 1982 founding: craftsmanship, innovation and enduring customer satisfaction. It says it has grown and scaled without losing the character that made it successful.
