Medirion is a German HealthTech startup based in Duisburg developing AI-powered diagnostic technology for rheumatoid arthritis. The company uses advanced sensors and deep learning to analyse hand temperature patterns - a non-invasive measurement approach - to identify early signs of rheumatic disease. Its system aims to diagnose RA within two weeks of initial patient contact, addressing a significant gap in the healthcare system where referrals to rheumatologists typically take six to nine months.
The company also offers digitally supported therapy tools for patients already diagnosed with RA. The clinical rationale is compelling: research suggests that seven times more RA patients can achieve remission with early treatment, yet only about 10% of all RA patients currently reach remission. Germany sees approximately 25,000 new RA diagnoses annually, representing a substantial patient population that could benefit from faster diagnosis and intervention.
Medirion develops all prototypes and software in-house, enabling rapid testing and validation of its technology. The company has been recognised by the Science4Life Idea Phase Award, selected for the HIGH-TECH.NRW Batch programme, and won the RuhrPitch competition.
