OPTrust, established in 1994, is a pension fund manager based in Toronto with additional offices in London and Sydney. The organization invests and manages one of Canada's largest pension funds, overseeing net assets of over $27 billion. It administers the OPSEU Pension Plan, a defined benefit plan providing retirement security for more than 118,000 members.
The fund has been fully funded for 17 consecutive years, with over 70 percent of retirement benefits coming from investment returns. OPTrust operates under a joint trusteeship model: a 10-member Board of Trustees - five appointed by OPSEU/SEFPO and five by the Government of Ontario - provides equal voice to plan members and the provincial government.
The organization's technology teams support a large-scale investment management operation spanning multiple international offices, requiring systems that handle complex portfolio management, actuarial calculations, and member administration. OPTrust operates within the regulatory frameworks of federal and Ontario laws governing registered pension plans.
