Pi School is an institution that connects applied AI research, education and enterprise transformation. Founded in 2017 and rooted in the Pi Campus startup community in Rome, it was co-founded by Marco Trombetti and Isabelle Andrieu, emerging from more than two decades of AI and human translation experience at Translated. Its stated purpose is to bridge academic knowledge, professional education and real-world business implementation.
The organisation runs two main activities. School of AI is an eight-week programme that brings together fellows, mentors and engineers to work on sponsored business challenges; more than 250 engineers have been trained through it. AI for Business provides enterprise services that help organisations assess AI opportunities, prototype solutions and integrate deployed systems into their own infrastructure. In total, Pi School has contributed to more than 100 AI solutions and secured over €7 million in European Union grants.
Technical work spans artificial intelligence and applied AI research, machine learning, multimodal foundation models, Earth observation, satellite communications, human translation and language technology, and accessible video collaboration. The organisation collaborates with the European Space Agency and the European Commission on EU-funded projects and operates across Europe from Rome and the Pi Campus startup community. Its model is collaborative by design, pairing fellows, mentors and engineers around real business problems rather than purely academic ones.
