Portbase operates the Port Community System, a digital platform that centralises mandatory processes across Dutch ports. Founded in 2002, it serves as the executive organisation for the Port of Rotterdam Authority and Port of Amsterdam, connecting over 7,000 organisations - including terminal operators, freight forwarders, shippers, and port authorities - on a single system. The platform processes more than 90 million transactions annually across 40+ services, streamlining data exchange and transaction processing for the entire port community.
The organisation functions as a neutral connector between market parties and government authorities, maintaining a not-for-profit structure. It works collaboratively with community representatives to set strategic direction and develop solutions that enable efficient, sustainable, and secure goods and data flows through Dutch ports and connected supply chains. Portbase prioritises simplicity in data exchange while respecting that customer data remains the property of users, viewing shared information as a means to create collective value.
