In 2013, Prismic was born from a team of seven developers who were building websites for a living at an agency. They grew frustrated with the limitations of traditional Content Management Systems - how they imposed wrong-headed workflows on developers and designers, and how they made simple content updates unnecessarily complex. They saw a fundamental problem with the CMS concept: it had the wrong focus and tried to do too many things. So they set out to create something better - a headless CMS that would free developers from what they called "CMS hell" while giving marketers the independence they craved.
Today, Prismic has evolved into a comprehensive headless page builder that bridges the gap between developers and marketers. The company's mission is to empower everyone - individuals and organizations - to express their identity and grow their business online. With headquarters in Paris, France, and a distributed team of 70 people across 13 countries representing more than 20 nationalities, Prismic has helped over 10,000 websites get built using modern frameworks like Next.js, Nuxt, and SvelteKit. The company pioneered the concept of "slices" - reusable website sections that let developers build custom page builders while giving marketers the freedom to create on-brand pages without breaking anything. Now Prismic is pushing toward what they call "autonomous websites" - AI-powered systems that can build, fix, and improve sites automatically, turning high-level intent into production-ready websites that continuously optimize themselves.
