Reverion, founded in 2022 as a spin-off from the Technical University of Munich, develops and manufactures reversible fuel cell power plants designed to run on green gases such as biogas and hydrogen. Based in Bavaria, the company builds containerized, standardized high-temperature fuel cell units intended for mass manufacturing and plug-and-play installation at agricultural biogas plants, industrial facilities, and energy generation sites across Europe.
The company's technology operates bidirectionally: it can electrochemically convert biogas or hydrogen into electricity while capturing pure CO2, and can run in reverse to produce green hydrogen or methane from excess renewable electricity. Reverion reports up to 80% electrical efficiency for its system, which it says roughly doubles the output of conventional systems.
Reverion works across several technical domains, including fuel cell technology, reversible energy systems, carbon capture and storage, and high-temperature electrochemistry. The company estimates its technology has the potential to power more than 65 million households with bioenergy and to cut 10% of Europe's total CO2 emissions.
