Scout Motors is an American electric vehicle manufacturer established in 2022 as an independent subsidiary of Volkswagen Group. The company is reviving the Scout brand with a focus on engineering and manufacturing rugged electric trucks and sport utility vehicles.
Scout Motors unveiled its first two production models in October 2024: the Traveler SUV and Terra pickup truck. Both vehicles feature body-on-frame construction and off-road capability, with an optional hybrid powertrain offering up to 500 miles of range. The company targets direct-to-consumer sales across the United States and Canada.
The company is investing $2 billion in a production facility in Blythewood, South Carolina, with capacity to manufacture 200,000 vehicles annually. Production is targeted to begin in 2027 and is expected to create approximately 4,000 jobs. Scout Motors operates with offices and facilities across Michigan, Virginia, California, and North Carolina, combining American engineering and manufacturing with resources from its parent Volkswagen Group.
