Universal Quantum, founded in 2018, is a quantum computing company focused on building utility-scale machines based on trapped-ion technology. The company's stated goal is to scale quantum computers to achieve a million high-quality qubits, a target intended to address complex problems in fields such as healthcare, materials science, climate modelling, and aerospace.
The firm has developed several core technologies to support this ambition. These include the iQPU (integrated Quantum Processing Unit), UQConnect for high-fidelity module connectivity, and UQLogic for efficient qubit control. A significant commercial milestone is a €67 million contract with the German Aerospace Centre (DLR) to build a fully scalable trapped-ion quantum computer.
