Racker is a voluntary not-for-profit organisation supporting people with disabilities and their families across New York state. Founded in 1948 by families seeking educational enrichment and social opportunities for their children, it delivers services through a network of community locations and is guided by the belief that every person deserves safety, dignity, connection and joy.
Its programme network spans several areas of support: preschool and early childhood education; special education and early intervention; day treatment and mental health support for young people; community support services; family assistance; self-directed services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities; and residential services. The stated aim is to help people build fulfilling lives, learn, develop relationships, take part in their communities and retain a sense of belonging.
Racker works in multidisciplinary teams that include educators, counsellors, social workers, psychologists, health professionals, direct support professionals and behavioural specialists. These teams operate collaboratively with children, adults, families, schools and community partners, delivering services through a network of community locations across New York.
